Comments OffMy old company changed it’s name, and it caused them a lot of trouble.
There was a time when I worked for this really amazing company called Driveways Reading. We were a driveway construction company handling the area of reading. We always got way more business than any of our competition, but eventually we decided to change the name of the place. We changed it to Driveway Construction Reading, and business suddenly plummeted. After that, we made a last ditch attempt to get our customers back by changing it to Driveway Resurfacing Reading, but it didn’t work. I think the better option would have been changing it all the way back to Driveways Reading, but the owner was a little stubborn, and he was sure that he could find a better name.
It’s odd how much brand loyalty can stem from the name of your business. When we were called Driveways Reading, we had a bit of a reputation around the Reading area, and when we changed the name to Driveway Construction Reading, the people in the area suddenly didn’t know who we were anymore. The change to Driveway Resurfacing Reading made no difference whatsoever, and that’s to be expected since it didn’t address the initial problem.
The whole fiasco with Driveways Reading is kind of a cautionary tale for other business owners. You have to be careful when it come to brand loyalty. If he hadn’t changed the name to Driveway Construction Reading, and then Driveway Resurfacing Reading, he would probably still be thriving.

Comments OffMy driveway construction job started to falter, so I had to move on.
I used to work for a great company called Driveways Reading. We made driveways for people, and it was a very difficult, but rewarding job. Later they changed their name to Driveway Construction reading, and oddly enough, that small name change generated a lot of problems for the company. Once you develop a certain amount of brand loyalty based on a name, you can have trouble carrying that over to a new company name. They later changed their name again to Driveway Resurfacing Reading, but honestly, I think they would have done better just to stick with Driveways Reading.
After they became Driveway Construction Reading, we started getting much less business, and as the company went downhill, I also started making less money. When you can’t get any hours, it’s hard to keep yourself afloat. After they eventually changed the name to Driveway Resurfacing Reading, and that still didn’t improve things, I decided it was time to move on.
I heard recently that they were changing the company name back to Driveways Reading. I was really glad to hear that news, and I think it will be a much more successful name than Driveway Construction Reading or Driveway Resurfacing Reading. I’m sure the people in Reading still remember the old brand name, and I expect them to return as customers. I may even try to get my old job back. It’s something I’m seriously considering.
